We’re committed to evidence-led support and advocacy for women in surgical menopause.
About SURGE
SURGE exists to support, educate and advocate for those affected by surgical menopause and abrupt ovarian failure following gynaecological surgery.
When ovarian function is lost suddenly, the impact on the body and brain can be severe and immediate. Yet care pathways are often fragmented, information inconsistent, and follow-up limited. Many people are left to navigate complex medical decisions, hormone treatment and long-term health risks without clear guidance or coordinated support.
The SURGE platform brings together evidence-led education, practical navigation tools and peer-informed insight to help people understand what is happening in their bodies, what care they are entitled to, and how to advocate for themselves within the healthcare system. Our focus is on clarity, accuracy and real-world relevance, grounded in lived experience and shaped in collaboration with clinical experts.
SURGE is not a wellness brand, a symptom tracker or a coaching programme. It is a response to a gap in care that should never have existed.
About our Founder, Kate
Kate created SURGE after experiencing abrupt ovarian failure and surgical menopause following gynaecological surgery. Like many others, she entered this transition with limited warning, conflicting information and little structured follow-up care. The physical and psychological impact was immediate. What followed was the realisation that her experience was not unusual, but systemic.
Kate is not a clinician. She is a patient advocate, researcher and community builder with extensive experience in women’s health communication and public education. She is the founder of The Motherload, one of the UK’s largest peer-led communities for mothers, and has spent years supporting women through under-recognised and poorly supported health transitions.
SURGE was created to address the specific vulnerabilities faced by those who lose ovarian function suddenly. Many are younger. Many are recovering from major surgery. Many are caring for families while trying to make life-altering medical decisions at speed.
Kate founded SURGE to ensure that no one enters surgical menopause unprepared, unsupported or unheard.
“I didn’t know where to turn before I found SURGE”
“I was unprepared for surgical menopause, and wasn’t even told that I would need HRT.
I heard a radio interview and looked up the website after and felt so relieved that there was something to help me. And really mad that I’d been left so long. So glad I found SURGE and the lovely community here.”
